In 2007 groups of young people representing galleries and museums from across Europe exchanged creative ideas through a mail art project. The project was inspired by themes of fantasy, myths and lies, drawing on Liverpool Biennal's theme of 'MADE UP'.
Everyone was invited to make an imaginary creature using a medium which can be easily posted and all the creatures were then posted in a chain, travelling across Europe and finally displayed in exhibition at Tate Liverpool during the Youth Art Interchange weekend.
In October 2008 Young Tate Livepool ran an international arts weekend for young people from galleries across Europe. During the weekend young people used Liverpool Biennal's theme of "MADE UP" as inspiration, running workshops and presenting a Halloween party with a twist called Fright Night.
The weekend was part of the British Council's Youth In Action programme which promotes active European citizenship among young Europeans and helps them shape the European Union's (EU) future.
"It's made me realise that all these European countries have exciting things for young people too! We should exchange more"
Member of Young Tate Liverpool
Around 250 young people took part in the weekend from the following European galleries; Helsinki City and Kiasma (Helsinki, Finland) Le Centre Pompidou (Paris, France), Equipo<18 (Madrid, Spain), Young Tate (St Ives, Liverpool, Tate Britain and Tate Modern), Visual Dialogues (Tate National UK Partner Galleries).
