Stamped in black with Turner Bequest monogram over ‘LVIII – 59’ bottom left
Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
This slight sketch appears to be the beginning of a landscape with rocks and trees, comparable with the developed ‘Scottish Pencil’ subject on the recto (D03428; Turner Bequest LVIII 49).
