This page begins a sequence of sketches that Turner begun as he left St Mary’s Loch and began the journey east along the Yarrow Water towards Selkirk; see Edinburgh sketchbook 1834 Introduction for more information about Turner’s itinerary. It was made at the north-east end of the loch and shows the source of the Yarrow Water. Opposite in the sketchbook on folio 30 (D26152) is a sketch of the view in the opposite direction.
