Turner made this sketch looking from the Stade or harbour at Folkestone towards the Lees and the church of St Mary and St Eanswythe. Eric Shanes has linked it with the watercolour (Taft Museum, Cincinnati, Ohio)1 engraved by Robert Wallis in 1826 Picturesque Views on the Southern Coast of England (NB: an editorial error in his book also relates it to an illustration of a completely different watercolour, of Tintagel Castle). In fact, this is not the same view as used for Southern Coast although it does include the church.
