With the sketchbook turned to the left, Turner has used this page to make a series of notes on people and establishments presumably related to Portobello, a small town on the Firth of Forth about three and a half miles east of Edinburgh. These notes may have been made in preparation for visiting Portobello based on someone’s advice. At the bottom of the page is the continuation of a sketch of Leith Harbour from folio 64 verso (D13574).
The notes are as follows: ‘[?]Murry [...] [?]maker | Gordon [or ‘Garden’] ?Cambell [...]’ top right, ‘[?]Garvi | [?]Worby | [?]Jarrow’ upper centre, ‘[?]Wine | [?]Walker | Mr Ross Portobello Office’ centre right, ‘Forsyth | Portobello C[...] |at Mr Murry [?]upstairs | [?]Davidson [?]Jarvays [?]Scotch’ centre left.
