Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
On his way to Chamonix and Mont Blanc, Turner followed the Arve valley, crossed the bridge at St Martin and took the old road to Servoz. This view of Mont Blanc was made near St Martin. Turner made another, slighter sketch of the same view on folio75 of this sketchbook (D04485). A further view of Mont Blanc from nearby is on folio 54 (D04449).
