This sketch of Brough Castle in Cumbria is taken from the same vantage point as the drawing on folio 36 (D25393). Although the present drawing is less detailed, giving only the outline of the structure, Turner did compensate in this instance by redrawing the castle keep at the bottom right of the page with the sketchbook turned to the left.
The sketch also continues onto folio 36 verso (D25594) where the outline of St Michael’s Church and the winding path of Swindale Beck are depicted.
