Finberg has described this rather rough sketch, drawn with the sketchbook turned to the left, as ‘a mountain pass’. While there are no other sketches of mountain passes in this sketchbook, there is a view of St Johns-in-the-Vale in Cumbria which bears some resemblance to the present drawing (folio 29 verso; D25580).
