This view of Innerwick Castle from the south is identifiable by comparison with sketches on folios 28 verso and 36 (D25977, D25988; CCLXVII 28a, 36). The castle stands on the steep edge of a gorge with Thornton Burn running beneath it. For more information see folio 28 verso.
At the top right of the page with the sketchbook inverted is a tiny sketch of the ‘Bell Tower’ at ‘Ber[wick]’-upon-Tweed (see Tate D25693; Turner Bequest CCLXV 29).
