Turner’s second sketch of the River Tweed and Ashestiel made from a rowing boat on the river with the sketchbook inverted, like folio 87 (D26086; CCLXVII 89), shows a view east along the Tweed with Ashestiel on the right bank. A small dark shape at the water’s edge towards the middle of this sketch may represent a figure on a horse.
For further information on Turner’s sketches of Ashestiel see folio 88 (D26088; CCLXVII 90).
