D07009
Turner Bequest CV 21a
Pencil on white wove paper, 108 x 185 mm

Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Drawn with the sketchbook inverted. In the absence of any identifiable detail of buildings on the banks of the Thames or of the exact design of the twin columns facing the piers of the bridge, it is hard to tell if this Blackfriars (built by Robert Mylne with Ionic columns) or Waterloo Bridge (built by John Rennie with Doric columns). See Introduction to the sketchbook for its numerous views of London and the Thames.
