This is one of numerous pages in this sketchbook relating to Turner’s self-designed Twickenham house, Sandycombe Lodge (see the Introduction to the sketchbook). As noted under D08966 (CXXVII 2), most of the designs in the book show variations on the central block of the house more or less as built, with variations in the lower flanking wings.1

Technical notes:
This is one of a few single leaves which, with a greater number of loose bifolio sheets, constitute the so-called Sandycombe and Yorkshire sketchbook. The folded sheets were not bound, but placed inside each other in a sequence which is not entirely recoverable (see the sketchbook’s Introduction for a suggested order).
