Ben Venue is seen here from the mouth of the Achray Water near where it enters Loch Achray. The stream can be seen turning to the right in the foreground, and is then shown as a narrower serpentine twist a little further off as it makes its way towards Loch Katrine through the Pass of Achray in the Trossachs. Ben Venue rises above with a number of small wooded hills in the foreground.
Turner made a number of sketches of Ben Venue and the Trossachs from the head of Loch Achray in this sketchbook. See folio 49 (D26532) for further details and references.
