J.M.W. Turner: Sketchbooks, Drawings and Watercolours

With the sketchbook turned in several directions, this page contains light marks that depict the profiles of rocks and hills around Loch Katrine. At the top left of the page, with the gutter at the left, is the continuation of a sketch from folio 32 (D26498) of Coir nan Uriskin, an area at the northern foot of Ben Venue which Turner may have been interested in for its historical and literary associations (see folio 32).

At the bottom of the page, drawn with the sketchbook inverted, is a rough sketch of the shore of a loch. This is likely to be the east end of Loch Katrine, as shown on folio 24 (D26482); it also continues on folio 32.

Finally, towards the fore-edge of the page, with the gutter at the bottom, are sketches of hill or mountain peaks. Judging by the other subjects on the page, these are likely to be Ben Venue and/or Ben A’an, as seen from Loch Katrine.
