This is one of five sketches of Ben A’an from across Loch Katrine to the south (see folios 42 verso–44; D26519–D26522).1 The present view was taken, as Turner’s inscription tells us, from the ‘landing to Goblins cave’. This is another name for Coir nan Uriskin, a corrie or cirque (basin formation in a mountain) at the northern slope of Ben Venue, which Turner sketched and made a note of on folio 32 (D26498). The bay and landing are shown in the foreground with a boat drawn up on the sand attended by several figures, and across the loch is the distinctive profile of Ben A’an.
