There are two sketches on this page. With the book turned so that the gutter is at the top there is a sketch that David Wallace-Hadrill and Janet Carolan have identified as a detail of Ben Venue from Loch Katrine.1 The detail in question is of the eastern slope of the northern foothill as depicted on folio 46 verso (D26527). The view is from the north, probably from the path along the north shore of the loch, and the strip of land before the hill is probably part of the Am Priosan Promontory. There are several further sketches of Ben Venue from this view; see folio 47 (D26528) for details.
At the left of the page, with the sketchbook turned to the right, is a sketch of the Trossachs,2 the wooded area east of Loch Katrine. The view is likely to be looking north-west from the west end of Loch Achray. This would make the hill on the right Ben A’an, with the eastern foothills of Ben Venue at the left and the mouth of the Achray water between them. For further views of Loch Achray, see folio 49 (D26532).
