David Wallace-Hadrill and Janet Carolan have pointed out that the mountain, inscribed ‘B Lo’ at the bottom left of this page, resembles Ben Lomond and they suggest that this may be a view from Loch Ard. It is possible that the second inscription above this sketch may say ‘Loch Ard’, and in any case the view is a good match. If Turner did visit Loch Ard in 1831 then he went further than Wallace-Hadrill and Carolan have suggested, extending his tour of Lochs Lomond, Arklet, Katrine and Achray south to Loch Ard and Aberfoyle. He may also have gone as far west as Callander (folio 63 verso; D26561).
The other two sketches on this page continue on folio 65 (D26564) and may have been made at Aberfoyle.
