The largest sketch on this page is of Port Askaig on Islay (see folio 37 verso; D26509), as seen from the hilltops to the south-east of the harbour. The view is identical to a sketch on folio 76 verso (D26587) which is inscribed ‘Port Askaig’. We look north over the small but busy harbour, up the coast of Islay, and across the Sound of Islay to Jura with the peaks of the Paps of Jura visible at the far right of the page. The Paps are shown again in the sketch at the top of the page which is inscribed ‘Paps’ (or ‘Parps’) and shows the coast of Jura, perhaps from near the mouth of the sound of Islay with the island of Am Froach Eileen and Claig Castle (see folio 83 verso; D26600) in the foreground.
A similar view of Jura is drawn at the foot of the page with the sketchbook turned to the left from the other sketches. Here the Paps can be seen at the far left of the sketch.
