Continued at the top of the sketch from folio 27 verso (D26794) is one of a number of studies that Turner made of Fingal’s Cave on the island of Staffa (see folio 29; D26797 for further information and references). The sketch looks towards the entrance of the cave which Turner left blank. At the left of the sketch there is a ledge of broken basalt columns in the foreground.
