This is the last in the series of sketches that Turner made of Gylen Castle from the east and the promontory to the south-east. The sequence begins either on the present page or on folio 73 (D26884) with a view from nearby to the east. The artist then walked south along the promontory to the south-east sketching as he went; this is recorded across folios 72–68 verso (D26875–D26882).
Turner also made a series of studies of the castle from close by to the west: folios 66–67 verso (D26870–D26873); and from further west along the coast of Kerrera: folios 63 verso–65 verso (D26865–D26869). For a full list of Turner’s sketches of Gylen Castle see folio 73 verso (D26885).
