This sketch has been identified as the view north from Gallanach Bay with the Sound of Kerrera.1 Gallanach Bay lies to the west of the Gallanach Cliffs about two miles south of Oban. Turner came here to make sketches looking towards Oban and Kerrera (folios 60 verso and 76 verso–79; D26859, D26891–D26896).
This sketch shows the bay in the foreground with boulders by the water’s edge, the Gallanach Cliffs straight ahead and a boat sailing down the Sound of Kerrera to the left; the same boat may be seen on folio 77 verso (D26893). The following page of the sketchbook shows the view looking south from the same location (folio 77; D26892).
