Drawn with the sketchbook’s gutter at the top of the page, this sketch of a riverbank and its reflection in the water may have been made at the River Tweed near Darnick, west of Melrose. There is a sketch of Darnick Bridge on the opposite sketchbook page: folio 57 verso (D26207).
There is an oval brown stain in the top left corner of this page. This can also be seen on the reverse of this page and on the following pages: folios 58 verso–59 verso (D26209–D26211).
