This sketch, drawn along the top of a torn page, depicts a lighthouse on a cliff as seen from the sea. It belongs to a group of sketches of the coast from the sea, made by Turner as he travelled south along the east coast from Edinburgh to London (folios 70 verso–77 verso; D26228–D26242).
