The main sketch on this page, drawn with the book inverted and continued on folio 21 verso (D26300), is a view from the south-west of the ruins of the old Douglas Castle and the eighteenth-century castellated manor house that was built to replace it. The two structures stood close together on a rise above the valley of the Douglas Water to the north-west. The valley, with a bridge over the river, can be seen at the left of the sketch. To the right of a clump of trees is the remaining tower of the old castle, with part of the new castle to the right. The sketch continued on folio 21 verso where more of the castle is depicted. At the bottom of the page is a another view of the old castle, this time from closer-to and from further round to the south so that we can see through the collapsed section at the south of the tower.
