The view is towards Exmouth, looking east across the Exe Estuary from the neighbourhood of Starcross (see the verso, D08491) and Cockwood (see folio 69 verso; D08495; CXXIII 66a). It is one of several sketches along the estuary, probably beginning on folio 66 verso opposite (D08489; CXXIII 63a).
