The significance of Turner’s inscription is elusive, but it may indicate the bridge on the Exeter Road over River Teign, between Kingsteignton to the east and Newton Abbot to the south. If so the bridge has since been altered or replaced, but the setting remains rural. The site is between others which he drew in this area of south-east Devon area, such as Teignmouth to the east (see under folio 71 verso; D08499; CXXIII 68a) and Ogwell Mill, west of Newton Abbott (see under folio 76 recto; D08508; CXXIII 73).
