Turner’s view is to the south-west from the waterfront at East Looe, with the tower of St Nicholas’s Church, West Looe to the right across the River Looe. Beyond are the hills overlooking the sea. From or near this spot, Turner looked in the opposite direction, to the bridge between the two Looes on folio 116 recto (D08583; CXXIII 113).
