As Turner’s inscription in the bottom left-hand corner indicates, these sketches depict the town of Cava de’ Tirreni (formerly known as La Cava) which lies on the road to Salerno between Nocera and Vietri sul Mare. The larger drawing represents the view from the east with the Church of San Francesco and Sant’Antonio in the centre.
