This page contains studies of the coastline between Pozzuoli and the Bay of Baiae. The two vistas at the bottom and bottom right-hand corner of the page depict the rocky outcrop and grottos of Punta dell’Epitaffio between Baiae and Lake Lucrino. It is the site of some ancient ruins, traditionally believed to the place where Hercules hid the oxen of Geryon during one of his mythic Twelve Labours. The central sketch represents the castle in the Bay of Baiae, whilst above this at the top of the sheet is a view of the distant coast of Pozzuoli, the island of Nisida and the Sorrentine peninsula.
