This page contains two sketches. The drawing at the top is a study of sailing boat, whilst beneath this is an unidentified landscape with a house and a boat. Turner frequently sketched ships and boats which feature heavily in many of his paintings. The study may predate the artist’s use of the sketchbook as a notebook relating to his Italian travels in the autumn of 1819.
