This view to the south-west shows the castle on the right, the two bridge piers in the Tyne on the left, and the tower of St Andrew’s church in the distance. An 1830s engraving after Thomas Allom shows the same view, with a weir and a watermill, which may be the gabled building Turner indicates just to the left of the castle.
