The subject of this sketch is the Portale Villa Burghesia, a seventeenth-century gate on the Via Pinciana, which was formerly the official entrance to the Villa Borghese.1 Built by Flaminio Ponzio in 1609, the structure was moved during the early twentieth century to accommodate the widening of the Via Pinciana. On the left of the sketch is a section of the Aurelian walls which leads east towards the Porta Pinciana, see folio 42 verso (D16229; Turner Bequest CLXXXVIII 41a).
