The scene is perhaps on the River Medway near Aylesford; see folios 73 recto, 74 recto, 75 verso (D00634, D00635, D00637; Turner Bequest XXVI 76, 77, 78v). Another view of this mill is on folio 72 recto (D00633; Turner Bequest XXVI 75), and the drawing on folio 70 verso opposite (D00631; Turner Bequest XXVI 73v) may show the same group of buildings.
The drawing was made with the page turned horizontally.
Technical notes:
Approximately 25 mm has been trimmed off the inside edge of this leaf towards the gutter (above the subject), reducing it from the usual dimensions of 203 x 264 mm for the other leaves in this sketchbook. It has been tipped onto a broad stub to bring its outer edge in line with the others. Some tears have been repaired.
