Aylesford Bridge probably dates from the fourteenth century, one of several bridges built over the River Medway in the Middle Ages. It was modified subsequently, its central arch widened to an unusually large span. This can be seen again in the view of Aylesford on folio 74 recto (D00635; Turner Bequest XXVI 77); another drawing showing part of the bridge is on folio 75 verso (D00637; Turner Bequest XXVI 78v).
The drawing was made with the page turned horizontally.
Verso:
Blank; inscribed, not by Turner, in pencil ‘3’; stamped in brown ink with Turner Bequest monogram.
