Finberg refers to this drawing and those on folios 34 recto and 35 recto (D00441, D00442; Turner Bequest XXIV 33, 34) as ‘slight’;1 in fact, although the pencil work is very light, much information is concentrated into them. The chine is perhaps that at Blackgang in Chale Bay, a famous beauty spot. Note the course of the stream, presumably from this chine, as it crosses what is probably a beach far below on the right. See also folio 5 recto (D00411) for another possible view of this chine.
The drawing was made with the page turned horizontally.
