The present sheet is not listed in Finberg’s 1909 Turner Bequest catalogue.1 A finished watercolour of the choir of King’s College Chapel is now untraced;2 Turner exhibited a view of the Choir in King’s College Chapel, Cambridge at the Royal Academy in 1795 (616; also untraced).3 As Wilton notes, these two may be identical.
A view of the exterior of the Chapel was commissioned by Mr Lyte on the basis of the drawing Tate D00354 (Turner Bequest XXII A), which bears that name on its verso (D40271), as does the verso of the present study (D40238).
