This page contains three, or perhaps four, rough sketches of mountainous landscape relating to Turner’s return journey across the Alps between Piedmont and Savoy. The precise locations are unknown although they are likely to depict views from the north (French) side of the Mont Cenis pass. The artist has annotated the vista in the top left-hand corner with notes concerning the colours of the sky and snow.
