This sketch depicts a view on the River Saône which formed part of Turner’s route between Chalon-sur-Saône and Lyon. The precise location is currently unidentified although it is likely to represent somewhere between Mâcon and Trévoux, see folios 30 and 39 respectively (D14036 and D14052).
