This page contains five distinct landscape sketches depicting views from the River Saône between Mâcon and Lyon. As Turner’s inscription on the scene in the top right-hand corner indicates, three of the studies are of Trévoux, a town on the left bank of the river approximately fifteen miles north of Lyon. Situated on the hill above the town are the ruins of the fourteenth-century château. For further sketches of Trévoux see folio 40 (D14053).
