This page contains three sketches of mountainous landscape which Turner has annotated with notes concerning colour and geographical details. The studies are too rough to be conclusively identified but the views almost certainly relate to the artist’s journey through the Alps via the Pass of Mont Cenis, possibly on the approach to Susa. For a general discussion and further sketches see the Introduction to the sketchbook.
