This is the left half of a double-page spread, continued to the right on folio 22 (D10908), opposite, recording the view of York from the south-east near Foss Islands Road, and including, from left to right across the spread: the tower of St Margaret, Walmgate seen over the city wall; the tower of St Denys, Walmgate; the spire of St Mary’s, Castlegate; the distant spire of All Saints, North Street; the octagonal belfry of All Saints, Pavement; the tower of St Croix, Pavement (demolished 1883); the tower of St Saviour’s, St Saviourgate; the Red Tower on the city walls in the foreground; and the west towers and central tower of York Minster in the distance, right. The panorama is continued further right on the following double-page spread, folios 22 verso–23 (D10909–D10910).
