This is the right half of a double-page spread continued from folio 68 (D10991), opposite, recording Hornby Castle from the east and supplying greater detail for the composition sketched from a greater distance on folios 62 verso–63 of the sketchbook (D10983–D10984). Turner drew the south and south-west aspects in the Yorkshire 3 sketchbook (Tate D11413–D11418; Turner Bequest CXLVI 27a–30).
