Figures are seen on the road above Pré St Didier, looking up the Val d’Aosta to Le Chetif and the Mont Blanc massif. A similar view is recorded in a watercolour study (Tate D25381; Turner Bequest CCLXIII 258). This sketch is inverted in relation to the main sequence of subjects in the sketchbook.
