Drawn inverted in relation to the main sequence of subjects in the sketchbook, this is another view of the Rathaus Gate and Roman wall at Langres; see also D29155; Turner Bequest CCXCIII 63a from the sketchbook. Finberg’s suggestion of Aosta as the present subject follows John Ruskin’s mistaken identification of D29155.
