Drawn from the park at Saint-Cloud above the Seine, this view looks up-river towards Sèvres. The stone-arched bridge is depicted at the left, with Saint-Cloud’s other bridge at the centre of the image. For further sketches at Saint-Cloud in this sketchbook see folio 3 verso (Tate D24505; Turner Bequest CCLVIII 3a). This sketch can be loosely associated with Turner’s later gouache and watercolour Bridges of St-Cloud and Sèvres, c.1833 (Tate D24689; Turner Bequest CCLIX 123), designed for Turner’s Annual Tour, 1835 (Tate T05618), although it does not show the same view.1
