Without notable landmarks this view, made with the page turned horizontally, is not readily placeable, but as Finberg suggests, it is presumably on or in the vicinity of Plymouth Sound. The dense shading to the left is unusual for Turner, and perhaps indicates that the woods were observed against strong light. The subjects as far as folio 127 recto (D09358) are all identified or presumed sites within a few miles in and around Plymouth, suggesting a series of fairly short excursions.
Technical notes:
A large, though faint, brown stain matches that on folio 64 verso opposite (the verso of D09287).
Verso:
Blank
