With the page turned horizontally, in the foreground towards the right are the three upper arches and the flanking pillars of the new Highgate Archway, carrying Hornsey Lane west to Highgate beyond. The buildings now in the vicinity are of later dates, and the bridge was replaced in 1897. There is a similar, slighter view on folio 220 verso (D09366; Turner Bequest CXXXI 131a).
The drawings between folios 218 verso and 227 verso (D09362–D09380; Turner Bequest CXXXI 129a–138a) are all identified or likely Highgate views; they were probably made working in from the back of the book as now foliated. The subject is discussed under folio 128 verso (D09360; Turner Bequest CXXXI 128a), apparently incorrectly isolated from the rest of the sequence by a block of blank leaves.
Technical notes:
A small brown stain at the top right matches one on folio 220 recto opposite (D09365; CXXXI 131), but they are slightly misaligned, suggesting that the pages were not then bound as they are now.
