This drawing, inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, continues across folio 60 recto opposite (D22437). As part of unpublished Turner research informed by local knowledge, Dr Bernard Richards confirmed the subject as Dudley Castle and St Edmund’s Church (on the other page),1 drawn to from the valley south-east of the town. The juxtaposition can now be glimpsed among much later development from the town’s Southern By-Pass, although the castle is largely screened by trees.
