Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, this drawing continues across folio 68 recto opposite (D22453). It shows the wooden Old Putney Bridge from the west, with the tower of St Mary’s Church, Putney above, looking west from the direction of Barnes on the south bank. A 1796 engraving of Putney-Bridge after Edward Dayes (1763–1804; London Metropolitan Archives) is directly comparable with this half of the view. For other sketches along the Thames between the bridges at Hammersmith and Putney, see under folio 58 verso (D22434).
