Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, Warwick Castle seen to the west with the Avon Bridge, the tower of St Mary’s Church and St Nicholas’s Church, from the south side of the river in the vicinity of Myton Road; St Nicholas’s appears as a continuation on folio 39 verso opposite (D22049). Commentators have mentioned this ‘assured and fluent’ drawing1 in the context of the subsequent watercolour of the castle from the bridge itself discussed under folio 38 verso (D22047).2
